What Is a Hair Transplant?

Hair transplantation is surgical procedure and requires the detailed intervention from a suitable medical practitioner. The process takes into consideration planting existing hair from one area of the scalp (also referred to as the donor area) to the other (also referred to as the recipient area). It is a technical procedure and needs to be carried out under the strict supervision of a medical practitioner.

The surgery is performed at the doctor’s office. It starts with the cleaning of the scalp before an injection is given to make you numb. Numbness is activated in the donor area so that hair grafts can be taken up from this area. Hair transplant surgery in Ludhiana is necessarily done under different methodologies. These different methodologies are discussed as under:

Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUT)

FUT starts with the removal of a 6 – 10 inch strip of skin from the back of the scalp. After removal of skin the scalp is again sewn back to the original. The area from where the skin is cut is immediately camouflaged with rest of hairs around. The detached skin layer is then cut in 500 – 2000 tiny grafts, each graft containing a few hairs altogether. Grafts prepared depend on hair type, density and volume of hair, besides the total donor area. Grafts prepared are then replaced effectively into the recipient area, in order to complete the process.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).

The FUE procedure starts with close shaving of the donor area. Usually this area remains to be the back of the scalp. Shaved hair contributes to the collection of hair follicles which are made in a series to be transplanted to the recipient area. Hair follicles or grafts are then replaced in the recipient area through a delicate process. The size of the transplant will determine the number of sittings that you require.

Both the procedures being principally same vary to a certain extent in terms of cost. However, your choice for taking a procedure should ideally depend on a prior medical consultation. This should be taken as a mandate as hair transplantation is known to be a complicated process. Usually, healing is fast if proper medical guidance is followed.
